A great night at the inter club league for Rob Kelly and the club and as Rob recorded his maiden victoy, a feat some of us (most) will never achieve.

It was a semi Limit DMS and Rob , Martin Vereker and myself went away on the first lap. This is the first and only winning break I have ever been involved in and the fact that I was only involved for only 3 km is irrelevant. Martin Vereker and Rob went away with 2 Usher lads and an Orwell Rider at a ferocious pace. Richard Gallagher gave a masterclass in soft tapping down the back stretch from Dunsany roundabout to the humpback bridge as Tiernan’s controlled the pace of the chasing group almost imperceptibly. The breakaway kept it together till 500m to go when it was every man for himself. Sprinting started from 250m out up hill in to the wind and Rob proved the strongest. Martin Came in a magnificent fifth for his second week in the points.

The lads deserve huge credit for taking it out so early with a break from 40km from home when other strong men in the group probably thought they might sit tight till later in the race as the break was probably destined to fail. Fortune favours the brave.

Other notable performances came from Dermot in the limit group who drove the group along while weaker men were content to hang on to his wheel before cynically coming past up the drag to the finish leaving Derm just out of the points- jolly unsporting, or magnificently canny? I’m not sure.

In the scratch group, Eamon’s form continues to return and were it not for someone losing the wheel through one of the final corners, points would surely have been in the offing- if not a victory celebration dedicated to Leinster Rugby- we will have to wait to see that one.
