Richard Gallagher 2nd in Betty D’arcy (A4)

The race last Sunday, 20th May, was the Betty Darcy Memorial (A4) promoted
by the Gorey based cycling club, Slipstream CC. It was run in good
conditions over 75kms taking in three laps of the rolling 25km Camolin
Circuit with 50 riders starting.

The first two laps were a frantic affair with numerous attacks going up the
road with a core 10-15 riders, including Richard, intent on driving on the
pace in order to tire out the big men however no one managed to stay away –
the A4 bunch seems to be getting fitter as the season progresses! The pace
steadied for the final lap as legs tired and people sat in for the bunch
sprint. Richard positioned himself well in the group with a few kms to go,
caught his breath, and managed to find a gap and sprint clear for second
place with a Barrow Wheelers rider hot on his heels. A Bray Wheeler took
the win ahead of Richard and the other chasers.
