Good luck to the lads kicking off their Mizen to Malin spin tomorrow in aid of the Red Door School for Autistic Children. You can still sponsor them. See below for details.

Richie Gallagher, Rob Kelly and Joe Flynn from St. Tiernan’s Cycling Club are organising and participating in a charity cycle from Mizen to Malin in aid of the Red
Door School in Monkstown.

The Red Door School is a school for Autistic children where they can be given an education while also learning and developing essential life skills. The school relies heavily on their Charity status due to limited funding from the Department of Education. My wife Laura has worked with the school for the past 8 years and is devoted to her job there. I am constantly impressed with the energy that her and her colleagues put into their work day in day out.

At the moment we have 10 riders participating. It will be a tough 4 days of cycling – over 100 miles per day and 450 miles in total. That’s three times the distance from Dublin to Derry! We will be leaving Mizen on the morning of Wednesday 1 August and will arrive in Malin on the Saturday evening of the August bank holiday weekend all being well!

All proceeds from the cycle will go towards funding a new, more secure playground facility for the children – the existing playground was recently vandalised. Our target fund raise amount is €5,000 but we would love to raise more. The sooner we can raise the money the sooner we can have a safe and secure outdoor area suitable for the children to play in this Summer. As you can understand learning for these children can sometimes be stressful for them and getting outside and playing can be a great release for them.

It is a very worthy cause and we would very much appreciate your support in helping us to raise funds for this charity. We have created a fundraising page on MyCharity.ie

On it you can read a few more words about the charity that we have chosen to support.

If you want to sponsor us you can do so via credit or debit card, or we have sponsor cards if you would prefer to give us cash when you see us next.

You will automatically receive an e-mail thanking you for your support, and acknowledging the amount of your donation. Any donation you can make, no matter how small, will be hugely appreciated!

Many thanks in advance for your support,

Richie Gallagher
