How reliable were you?
SATURDAY was Reliability Trial day and some proved more reliable than others on a morning colloquially renamed as Trial by Wind.
It was the first Reliability Trial in St. Tiernan’s calendar and the clear day drew out more than 20 riders for the 125k jaunt through Kildare. A puncture minutes from the start knocked the leading group’s reliability points to minus, but, into the persistent headwind, the puncturer and his two fixers latched back on to group two.
At Clane, six turned out of the headwind into not-a-tailwind (disappointing much) and the remainder powered on to complete the task and prove their reliability. It was a tough ride home for the touring riders as the frisky racers ramped up the pace, but all hung tough – some turning out for Reliability Trial Part II on Sunday.
