Club spins during spring and summer can be between 80kms and 120kms. They tend to be mountainous or will have hard-paced intervals. These spins will consist of sportive and racing level riders. A rider would have to be training regularly and have experience on the bike before joining the club during the cycling season.
Touring and improvers group:
This is the group where new members are encouraged to start if they have no group riding experience. The minimum fitness requirement to achieve before joining this group is to be able to complete a 50-80km cycle at 20-22 kph. The club can then focus on group riding skills to the benefit of all. During the winter the Touring and Improvers group is the starting point for Beginners and usually starts at 9:30 am from Park Vale or Taylor’s Lane.
Sportive group: 80kms - 100kms mostly flat 25 - 30km/h average speed. Short stop at a shop for re-fueling. Riders unable to stay with the main group could be dropped if the pace is too low.
Racing group: 80kms - 100kms mostly flat 30+kms/h average speed. This group is for current racers and experienced riders who wish to race in 2015. Please contact us beforehand to enquire about racing with St. Tiernan's Cycling Club.
