Bartels second as Cody punctures out at Ballawley
CONSTANTIN BARTELS shone for the jersey at its local round of the Fixx Supercross Cup cyclocross league when taking a close second in the B race, despite several crashes.
It was round three of the competition held at Ballawley Park, a stone’s throw from St. Tiernan’s spiritual home, St. Tiernan’s school, and the mud was alive on a demanding course.
Bartels’ nemesis was the final steep drop on the lap, providing a narrow inlet through trees down over ruts and a dip, before a tight left-hander onto mud, through the pits and out to the tarmac and the finish line.
He was beaten 10 minutes by Epic MTB’s Ben Breach and lays 27th in the series with 80 points.
Alan Cody took on the A race full-throttle with a good draw on the grid, but a fall off the start-line set the tone for his race, which ended with a double puncture caused by a hidden rock at the crest of a steep ramp – this ended several rider’s races.
Cody was despondent about the result, though he still sits a very healthy 18th in the standings with 101 points.
In the ladies division, TheEditor, Jessica Lamb, survived her cross debut, completing it dirty and without mishap, but definitely lacking speed. The mission continues.
